AngelList: LA Losing New Technology Grads

A new report, published by startup networking organization AngelList, says that Los Angeles is losing out to such areas as the Bay Area and New York, because of failure to offer up training to newly graduating engineering graduates. According to AngelList, 72 percent of LA's engineering graduates leave the area for their first jobs--which the group attributes to a lack of recruiting of junior level engineers at local startups and high tech companies. AngelList said that it found that not as many companies in LA, especially startups, who recruit junior engineers or are willing to train them; AngelList said in its survey that 49 percent of LA startups say they offer little-to-no training to their tech teams. Among advantages in Los Angeles which AngelList said are not emphasized enough: the lower cost of living (which means salaries go further), and the much faster rate of increase in the average minimum salary that LA startups are offering to new graduates.
