Amazon Studios Nabs Rights To Lord of The Rings For Original Series

Amazon Studios, the content arm of Amazon which is based in Southern California, said this morning that it has acquired the rights to The Lord of the Rings, and will produce a multi-season television series based on the Toklein books. The new series will be available on Amazon Prime. Amazon said the deal with with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema will include a multi-season television series, preceding The Fellowship of the Ring. Amazon said the deal also includes a potential, additional spin-off series. Financial details of the deal were not announced. Amazon Studios has more than 700 employes in Los Angeles, and is in the midst of moving to The Culver Studios in Culver City.
