Hulu Becomes First Echo Show Live Stream

Amazon.com Inc.’s newest Echo Show device (which will start shipping in October) is designed to work like a small television, in addition to being a visual hub for the company’s voice assistant Alexa. Beginning next month, the Echo Show will offer the ability to watch TV from Santa Monica-based streaming provider Hulu. Techcrunch reports that Hulu was announced as an Echo Show TV app alongside NBC, but that Hulu is the only provider to support live broadcasting — for now. Hulu also announced a website redesign last week, which supports multiple windows, Google Chromecast support, and picture-in-picture mode while browsing.

FabFitFun Begins Live Programming

West Hollywood-based women’s lifestyle brand FabFitFun Inc., known for its curated beauty subscription boxes, announced Sept. 24 it will commence live programming on its Facebook page. Socaltech reports the brand will use the live streaming time Mondays through Fridays to stream beauty demonstrations and interact with users or answer messages from them. FabFitFun already operates a video streaming service, FabFitFunTV, but it does not have live or interactive capabilities.

Ricca, Geldmacher Join Scopely

The Business Journal reports Culver City mobile game developer Scopely Inc. has added two new hires. Brittany Geldmacher, former head of communications at Walt Disney Co. subsidiary (and YouTube content developer) Maker Studios Inc. will now lead Scopeley’s internal and external brand and corporate communications, while Rob Ricca will join Scopely as vice president of corporate development. Ricca headed corporate development for San Francisco mobile game manufacturer Glu Mobile Inc. and worked as a mergers and acquisitions-focused corporate attorney for Fenwick & West.
