ObEN Raises $7.7M For Realistic, AI-Driven, Virtual Reality Avatars

Pasadena-based ObEN, an Idealab-backed startup which is developing artificial intelligence technology for creating highly realistic, virtual reality avatars, has raised $7.7M in a series A funding, the company announced this mroning. According to ObEN, the funding was led by CrestValue Capital, the investment arm of the DunAn Group, and also included Cybernaut Westlake Partners, Leaguer Venture Investment Co., Ltd., the venture fund of the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen, Third Wave Digital (Allen DeBevoise), Dream Maker Entertainment Ltd. (S.M. Entertainment Co., Ltd.), Gordon Cheng (Cameron Pace Group China), and Idealab. The new startup's technology allows a user to create a realistic replica of yourself--including both your image and voice--in virtual or augmented reality, using just a smartphone. The company is led by Nikhil Jain. The company is currently part of the HTC VIVE X virtual reality accelerator program. More information »
