It’s oh so quiet on the early morning streets of Beverly Hills. Slowly, a trickle of hipsters braving the chilly air starts to materialize, rounding corners and making a beeline for the warmth and strong coffee aroma wafting out of the Coupa Café. Come rain or shine, the social media community gathers together here to share breakfast, network and learn at the Social Media Breakfast LA (SMBLA) monthly meeting. October’s talk was called “Social Media Analytics Demystified” given by Apryl DeLancey of Blaze PR.

The SMBLA is hosted by Jessica Springer, a senior publicist at Allied-THA — and Justin Michael Williams, the founder of sketchbookLA, a social media agency that caters to yoga, health and wellness. The event was created a little over two years ago after Williams realized that Los Angeles was lacking a social media breakfast club, despite the fact this type of event is found in most major cities. He teamed up with Springer and together they launched the local networking and learning opportunity for social media professionals and amateurs alike.

Unlike DigitalLA or the Social Media Club LA, the Social Media Breakfast LA is usually discovered by word of mouth referrals, and occurs reliably once a month at the same commute-friendly location. You can get on the email list by signing up via their Facebook page to receive alerts of upcoming events. Next month’s scheduled event topic will be “Brand identity: becoming the voice of your brand” presented by Rob Grier from the Munchie Machine food truck.

The Social Media Breakfast LA is a great way to start your day, and Springer says you never know what to expect. For example there was that time the Brazilian Carnival showed up with showgirls in full costumes seeking social media tips at 7:30 in the morning. They also offer sponsorship opportunities for local technology focused businesses trying to reach social media influencers. Come eat, network and learn — all before the work day starts.
