Nirvanix Raises $10M, Names New CEO

San Diego-based Nirvanix, the provider of cloud storage services, said today that it has raised another $10M in a funding, and appointed a new CEO. The firm said the new round is a Series B, and comes from investors Intel Capital, Mission Ventures, Valhalla Partnes, and Windward Ventures. Nirvanix also said it has named Scott Genereux as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Genereux was most recently at Nirvanix, where he served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. Prior to QLogic, Genereux was at DataDirect Networks (DDN), also serving as VP Sales, Marketing, and Support, and has previously served at Hitachi Data Systems. The company said that current President and CEO Jim Zierick will continue to serve on its advisory council.

Nirvanix operates a cloud-based storage service, which offers up data storage via a web-based API. The firm's services both compete in the general cloud storage service market against such giants as Amazon S3, and also have been applied to the enterprise market, providing cloud-based storage for tiered storage and backup.
