VentureBeat Predicts Snap’s New Year’s Resolutions

Snap Inc. is cash-strapped and has much to do to rebound from a rough 2018, and VentureBeat noted several suggestions Dec. 26. On the list include target and retain more users over 34 years of age, reduce employee churn and launch a redesigned Android app. Additionally, Snap needs to attract more advertisers to avoid running out of funds in 2019 – currently, the Santa Monica camera company’s ad revenue growth slowed to $662 million this year, down roughly 67 percent from this time the year prior.

SpaceX Nabs $29 Million from Air Force

Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies Corp. received a $28.7 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to further its data connectivity research on the ground and in space. GeekWire reports SpaceX’s work under the contract is due to be completed midway through 2021 and is part of the Air Force’s Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet program.

FTC Warns Consumers about Netflix ‘Phishing’ Scam

The Federal Trade Commission issued a Dec. 26 warning to consumers about a new “phishing” scam aimed at Netflix customers, Variety reports. The scam involved emails sent to consumers claiming their Netflix account is “on hold” because of “some trouble with your current billing information.” The emails include a link to update payment information, an international phone number, bad grammar and the British spelling of words such as “centre.”
