Halogen Ventures Backs TheSkimm

Santa Monica-based Halogen Ventures, the female-focused venture capital fund run by Jesse Draper, has made an investment in email newsletter and millennial women's news source TheSkimm. The new Series C funding came from Willow Bay, dean of the USC Annenberg School; Jesse Draper of Halogen Ventures; Shonda Rhimes (GingerBread Capital); Linnea Roberts (ELY Capital); Hope Taitz; Goldman Sachs Group, and Michael Karsch (Juice Press). TheSkimm is based in New York City. Halogen Ventures recently raised $10.4M as part of its first fund, Halogen Ventures LP. Halogen specifically invests in female founders. TheSkimm was founded by Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg.
