RealD Drops Patent Lawsuit Against Volfoni, But Threatens More

Los Angeles-based 3D movie projection technology developer RealD has dropped a patent infringement lawsuit it had filed against competitor Volfoni, however, is threatening to sue Volfoni if it ever tries to sell its products in the United States. Volfoni announced the two had agreed to drop the patent lawsuit, and denied patent infringement on RealD's products--and also said that RealD did not have any international patents for the U.S. patents at the heart of the lawsuit. For its part, RealD said it disagreed with Volfoni, and claimed "misrepresentations and misleading claims" from Volfoni, and reserves the right to continue the suit against Volfoni if it ever starts selling its product in the U.S. RealD explained it agreed to dismiss the patent lawsuit after Volfoni represented that it had not sold or distributed, and is not selling or distributing its Smart Diamond Crystal product in the United States, which would infringe on its patents.
