Tribogenics Launches Handheld Metal Identification Device

Los Angeles-based Tribogenics, the UCLA spinout which is developing hand held X-ray devices, has rolled out its first product, a handheld device for analyzing metal alloys. Tribogenics said that its analyzer--which costs just under $10,000--is aimed at industrial and consumer applications, and instantly identifies, analyzes and tests a broad range of metals and alloys. The company said the device can be used for positive materials identification (PMI), scrap metal recycling, quality assurance and quality control. Tribogenics dramatically shrinks the size of X-ray analysis devices, by using static electricity to generate X-rays. Tribogenics is led by Dale Fox, and is backed by the Founders Fund, among others.
