Mastercard and Riot Games Team Up

Mastercard Inc. and Sawtelle-based Riot Games Inc. have signed a deal ensuring that Mastercard will be the first global, multi-year sponsor for the studio’s “League of Legends” e-sports title. In total, 14 professional e-sports leagues and 113 professional teams play “League of Legends,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Newegg Battles Data Breach

Pico Rivera-based online electronics retailer Newegg Inc. discovered Sept. 18 that several lines of malicious code were running on its site since Aug. 14 and stealing customer credit card information. The company reports more than 45 million unique monthly users but has not determined how many customers were affected, Techcrunch reports.

March Capital Partners Lands $13.6 Million for ioTium Inc.

Santa Monica-based March Capital Partners announced Sept. 19 it led a $13.6 million Series B investment round for Santa Clara internet of things software startup ioTium Inc. Socaltech reports the round also included participation from Honeywell Ventures. Crunchbase reports ioTium, founded 2105, has raised $20 million to date from investors including GE Ventures and Sunnyvale-based Juniper Networks Inc.
