Ice Energy Ties With Solar Panel Providers For Energy Bundle

Santa Barbara-based Ice Energy, the developer of energy storage devices which use ice to offload electric grids of peak loads, said Wednesday that it has launched a new, bundled solution which combines both its energy storage and photovoltaic solar energy. According to the company, it has created a Solar + Ice bundle, which uses rooftop solar PV and its Ice Bear thermal energy storage products, to help utilities with their clean energy efforts. Ice Energy says it is working with NRG Energy and other solar companies on the effort. Ice Energy sells its systems to utilities, who use the company's technology to reduce peak demand for power by standard, 5-20 ton commercial AC units; the company's products freeze ice at night when power demands and costs are low, and uses that stored ice to cool buildings during the day, dramatically reducing power demand due to AC usage.
