SpaceX Wins $3M For Moon, Mars Exploration Research

Hawthorne-based SpaceX has received a $3M contract from NASA, to go towards some of its work aimed at space exploration on the Moon and Mars, NASA said this week. The award was one of a number of awards given to 14 companies, announced by NASA for its Tipping Point program. NASA said that SpaceX will collaborate with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, to develop and test coupler prototypes – or nozzles – for refueling spacecraft such as the company’s Starship vehicle. According to NASA, that technology could be used for large-scale, in-space propellant transfer. NASA awarded the fourteen companies a combined total of $43.2M for those Moon and Mars exploration efforts.
