Sonos Buys Snips For Voice Technology In $37.5M Deal

Santa Barbara-based Sonos said on Wednesday afternoon that it has acquired Snips, a developer of an artificial intelligence platform for enabling voice interaction with connected devices. According to Sonos, it paid approximately $37.5M for Snips, subject to purchase price adjustments and holdbacks. Sonos said that the deal--which includes the employees at Snips, along with its IP--will "elevate the voice experience" at the company. Snips has over 50 employees, and is based in Paris, France; the company was founded in 2013. Sonos said that Snips has been working on voice assistants, and provides proprietary technology allowing for voice processing on the device, which can run alongside other, general purpose voice assistants currently running on the Sonos platform.
