MediaLab, Maker Of Whisper, Buys Kik

Instant messaging service Kik has been sold to Los Angeles-based MediaLab, the owner of anonymous messaging app Whisper, the companies said over the weekend. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. The two said that Kik Interactive, the owner of Kik, sold both Kik and other "selected assets" to MediaLab. The sale of Kik to MediaLab is related to the legal issues that Kik has been battling with the SEC over its "Kin" cryptocurrency. Kik is venture backed by Foundation Capital, RRE Ventures, Spark Capital, and Union Square Ventures
