UpKeep, a Los Angeles-based facilities maintenance company, announced $10 million in Series A funding, led by Emergence Capital. As part of the deal, Kevin Spain, a partner at Emergence, will join UpKeep’s board.

UpKeep functions as a mobile and cloud-based app that allows facility management teams to organize maintenance projects for a $25 monthly fee. For example, workers can take pictures of equipment needing maintenance, create a work order, and send it to be processed from their mobile device. UpKeep also helps managers measure the cost of parts and labor, and the time it took to close out a project, giving businesses insight into maintenance expenditures.

“UpKeep’s software addresses the needs of remote technicians and their teams, a part of the deskless workforce which account for about 80 percent of workers worldwide,” said Spain, in a company statement. “Until now, these workers have been forgotten by software companies, and have had to work with technology built decades ago. UpKeep upends the industry by radically changing and improving the way maintenance field technicians and their teams work.”

The company was founded in 2015 by Ryan Chan and is reporting that it is used by more than 50,000 technicians and 1,000 businesses, including Marriott, Jet.com, Unilever, McDonald’s, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and others.
