TVC Capital Backs Celigo

Celigo said this morning that it has raised $8M in an expansion capital round, its first institutional funding since it was founded in 2006. San Diego-based software growth equity investor TVC Capital has backed Celigo , a developer of software to integrate cloud-based applications. A part of the funding, TVC Capital's Steven J. Hammerslag joins the company's board of directors. Celigo said the funding will go to expand sales, marketing, and product development.

Spokeo Hits 150 Employees, Reports Growth

Spokeo, which has been around since 2006, lets users search for people using their name, phone number, email address, or usernames; the company says its service is aimed at helping people reconnect with friends and family they have lost touch with. Pasadena-based people search engine provider Spokeo is up to 150 employees in its Pasadena headquarters, almost double the number of employees it had in 2012, the company said today.

Classy Captures $18M For Nonprofit Software

San Diego-based Classy , which develops cloud-based software used by nonprofits for fundraising, disclosed that it has raised $18M in a new funding round. The funding came from Mithril Capital Management and Salesforce Ventures.

LightPointe Wireless Expands In Europe

LightPointe is owned by Berg & Berg Enterprises, which acquired the company in 2006. LightPointe had originally been venture backed, and was acquired after a Chaper 11 bankruptcy back in 2006. San Diego-based LightPointe Wireless , a developer free-space optical networking equipment, said Tuesday that it has expanded in Europe, and opened up a new office in France. The firm said it has hired Patrick Cardon as Director of Sales for Southern Europe as part of the expansion.

Hsieh gave $35M to the University of Southern California in 2006, which renamed its Electrical Engineering Department as the USC Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering. Temple City-based Fulgent Genetics , based in the San Gabriel Valley, has filed for an IPO, saying that it is seeking to raised $50M in an IPO on the NASDAQ Global Market as FLGT. The IPO is being underwritten by Credit Suisse, Piper Jaffray, Raymond James, and BTIG.

The sale this morning of El Segundo-based Accordent Technologies was a big win for San Diego investment firm TVC Capital. TVC was the sold institutional investor in Accordent, which sold to Polycom for $50M. TVC's investment in Accordent was managed by Jeb Spencer, who was Chairman of Accordent's board; TVC's Steve Hammerslag also served as a director.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media has appointed a new head of its eNom domain name registration services group, the firm said today. Demand Media said it has promoted Taryn Naidu to EVP and General Manager, eNom.
