Some Reflections on VC Investment Decisions

I started in 2007 with a thesis that my primary investment decision would be about the team (70%) and only afterward about the market opportunity (30%). Today we’re in a world where 10 accelerators are bombarding you with emails to meet their 10-15 companies. You need to be very present in these periods of time. Probably more.

Do Less. More.

I feel more comfortable in my skin and accept that I can’t return every email, I can’t take every startup pitch, I can’t attend ANY demo days ( did I mention I don’t like demo days ?), I can’t be at every great out-of-town meetup and I certainly can’t “ chuck in money to every party round.”

But I became a VC in 2007 and wrote my first check in 2009 – 4.5 Nothing was more heart warming than the photo of David Karp hugging Bijan Sabet after the sale to Yahoo!
