El Segundo-based AdEngage, an online advertising network, has been acquired by blog and Internet search site Technorati, Technorati said today. According to Technorati, it has acquired AdEngage to launch a new self-service advertising network for blogs and social media sites. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. AdEngage was founded in 2004, and according to Technorati serves more than 12 billion ad impressions across more than 4,000 sites.

According to the publication, citing a representative of the firm, Buzznet has eliminated 10 employees, from a total of 89 staff. This publication has not yet confirmed the cuts with the firm.

ClipBlast Gets Win With KickApps

According to ClipBlast, users of KickApps' video player and widget software can use its technology to search and embed videos from other video sharing sites onto their blogs, message board posts, and member-to-member messages. Los Angeles-based ClipBlast, a developer of video search tools and software, said Wednesday that KickApps will integrate the firm's video search products into its platform.

Shopit Raises $2.5M

Shopit develops software which can be embedded in social networking profiles, blog pages, and on other web pages for selling products. Los Angeles-based Shopit, a developer of online shopping widget software, said today that it has raised $2.5M in a Series B funding. The funding came from Toronto, Canada-based Emerson Ventures and Propulsion Ventures. ShopIt said that the round is the first tranche of a $7M capital raise planned for the firm.

Mahalo Cuts Staff

Santa Monica-based Mahalo, the search and news site run by Jason Calacanis, has cut 10 percent of the firm's staff, Calacanis said in a post on his blog Wednesday. Calacanis said that the moves were due to a "challenging economic environment." According to Calacanis, the firm is "fairly certain" that advertising for the next two years will be "severely depressed." The cuts will give the company runway past 2012. Cornerstone OnDemand Adds Social Networking Features

The new product provides online communities, user profiles, blogs, and wiki features for business collaboration. Santa Monica-based Cornertone OnDemand, a provider of software-as-a-service tools for human resources management, said this week that it has added new social networking features to the firm's product. According to Cornerstone, it has introduced a new product called Cornerstone Connect, which will provide workforce collaboration to its customers.

Goodreads Adds Status Updates

Goodreads said that the feature, which is similar to features from Twitter and Facebook, allows members of the site to micro-blog thoughts about books as they are reading them. Santa Monica-based Goodreads, a social networking site focused on book readers, said today that it has rolled out a new feature which allows users to provide status updates.
