This morning's interview is with Mark Suster , a venture capitalist at GRP Partners (www.grpvc.com). GRP has just recently closed on a new $200M fund, and Mark has been one of the more active venture capitalists in the Los Angeles area in recent months. It looks like GRP has been making lots of early stage investments lately--can you talk a little bit about your investment preferences and what you are looking at nowadays?

Zag said it has promoted Bernie Brenner to Executive Vice President in charge of the firm's consumer initiatives, named David Pributsky as VP of Partner development. Santa Monica-based Zag, a venture-backed developer of online car buying software, said this morning that it has made.

Zag is headed by former CarsDirect CEO Scott Painter, and is venture backed by Anthem Venture Partners, Capital One Auto Finance, GRP Partners, Arcturus Capital, Callaway Cars and the Skoll Fund.

Kyriba Enhances Cash Management Software

The firm is venture backed by American Express, BIH, BRED Banque Populaire, Coface, GRP Partners, and Mangrove Capital Partners. San Diego-based Kyriba Corporation, a venture-backed provider of software-as-a-service used for treasury cash management, said this morning that the firm has rolled out an enhancement to its offerings. Accordng to the firm, its software now connects to SWIFT, which is a financial messaging network used by banks to exchange secure messages.

However, one, longtime local fund-- GRP Partners --appears to have found the right formula for venture success, and has just raised a brand new, $200 million fund. All of our partners are based here. Our 2008 fund is also performing incredibly strong.

Burstly Snags $1.8M For Mobile Ad Tools

The funding round came from GRP Partners and Rincon Ventures. Mark Suster at GRP lead the firm's investment, with Jim Andelman heading up Rincon's involvement. Los Angeles-based Burstly announced Tuesday afternoon that the firm has raised $1.8M in a venture funding.

As part of the new mobile ad service, Burstly said it has partnered with mobile application developer Newtoy, which develops the Words With Friends application. Burstly is venture backed by Founder Collective, GRP Partners, Rincon Venture Partners, and SoftBank Capital.
