Solarflare Promotes Engineering VP

The firm has received funding from Oak Investment Partners, Anthem Venture Partners, Acacia Capital, Intel Capital, and Miramar Venture Partners. Irvine-based Solarflare said late Friday that it has named a new, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Danny Shamlou. According to the firm, Shamlou will be responsible for all of the firm's engineering functions. Shamlou was most recently the firm's VP of VLSI Design, and has also served at Starport Systems, Mindspeed and Conexant.

Axiom Microdevices Acquired By Skyworks

Irvine-based Axiom Microdevices , a venture backed developer of CMOS power amplifiers for mobile phones, has been acquired by Masachusetts-based Skyworks Solutions. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to Skyworks, the acquisition will have "no significant impact" on its operating expenses.

Intercasting Acquired By Good Technology

Intercasting was backed by Venrock, Avalon, and Masthead; its flagship software is ANTHEM, which connected mobile users to social networking sites like MySpace, and was sold by telecom carriers. San Diego-based Interacasting Corporation , a provider of mobile social networking software, has been acquired by Good Technology, the firms said this morning. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Solarflare Communications Hires VP

Irvine-based Solarflare Communications , which develops 10 Gigabit Ethernet silicon, said today that it has hired on Mike Smith as the firm's Vice President of Product Marketing. Smith joins the firm from Emulex, where he was the company's Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. Smith has also served at Adaptec and Western Digital.

Calacanis: First Angels In New Angel Group

According to TrueCar, it will provide its price reports on Pricequotes.com , Carbuyingtips.com , Carzen.com , Carpricesecrets.com , and Cardevotion.com. Financial details of the distribution deals were not disclosed.

Los Angeles-based Buzznet , the venture-backed operator of a network of entertainment-focused social media sites, is making the rounds with a new feature on its Celebuzz celebrity web site this week. The firm rolled out a "zoom" feature that allows users on the site to magnify celebrity photos on the site.
