A new study, released today by the Pew Research Center , says that more American adults are using online dating sites or mobile apps than ever before. The study said 15% of adults have used online dating sites or apps; with 9% having used dating apps. The Pew study called the move to mobile dating apps "dramatic".

Tied for second, were LaunchpadLA and MuckerLab , where we tallied 15 investments each in their portfolio companies over the last year. As Xconomy reported last year, South San Francisco, CA-based BlackThorn was spun out of Scripps Research Institute , which on its website lists the company as one of its 2013 spinouts. Known as BTRX-246040, the drug has already been tested in early studies and is set to begin a Phase 2 program next year.

Companies can claim the credit for 2010 through 2013 and for any two years after that. That list is not yet final, and could expand as 2014 approaches.

There was a study conducted by Silicon Valley Bank that found an astounding 9 out of 10 tech startup executives claimed that they were hiring last 2013. The study also revealed that 82 percent of executives stated that they were looking for candidates with strong STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills.
