My First Book – Pricing Your Practice by Eric Greenspan

Eric Greenspan

Woke up and there it was, my book cover. She just made it and sent it to me. I looked at it for a bit and started thinking about writing it. Then I did. I published the initial draft this past weekend and it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon.

Which Circle Do You Want To Be In…The Blue One (NHL) or the Red One (TED)?

Eric Greenspan

The NHL centre ice circle is blue. The TED carpet that speakers stand on is a red circle. Both are highly desired places to stand, speak or skate. But the best way to get to either is to focus on what will get you there, not on getting there. Focus on the work, development, the achievements and the ride, and maybe, although unlikely, you’ll stand in one of those circles one day. As a TED attendee and TEDx host, I often hear and see the statement “I want to do a TED Talk.”

When Your Legs Start Shaking, Just Keep Talking

Eric Greenspan

Back in 2001, I started my 3rd company out of my 3rd bedroom in my newly rented townhome on the beach after separating from my oldest son’s mother. I had no choice. I had just sold my last company and I needed to keep busy. I built and built and built and one day, I wrote a business plan and sent it off for review to an angel funding group. I pitched 4 locations, including Hawaii. I got a few bucks out of a guy that wasn’t even in the room, but overheard from outside the banquet room.

Chapter 8: My 9 Lives, 6 Companies, 3 Wives, 7 dogs, 4 Homes, 4 Boats, 160 cars and 2 Kids Story

Eric Greenspan

I call this story Chapter 8, I’ll explain later. In 1987 I arrived in Santa Barbara with a bike, $3,000 and a chip on my shoulder, tons of passion and something to prove. I was unstoppable and I achieved much.

Three Years and 12 Years Later

Eric Greenspan

Three years ago, I got the news that my investor was unable to fund and my 11 year old company would miss it’s first payroll. It was a Sunday, around noon. When the news arrived, I moved fast and did all I could to start the process of acceptance.

Chapter 8.1: How I Made $9,000 Buying an Electric Car

Eric Greenspan

This past weekend I bought a new car for my gal to drive and as a family car. I was one week out from my discharge of a chapter 7 bankruptcy. That story is here. Today, a couple of days later I bought another car. Let me explain. Three years ago my company collapsed.

Is Time Tracking Unethical?

Eric Greenspan

I just got back from Sage Summit and met Ron Baker and Ed Kless. These two do NOT believe in time tracking and are paving the way for making it considered not only unethical, but even illegal, I think. So I ask, Is Time Tracking Unethical?

The Holstee Manifesto

Holstee Manifesto. This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV.

Does Best Buy Need a Restart?

Eric Greenspan

I continue to be fascinated with Best Buy. I am an absolute believer that this organization can rebuild its brand and re-establish a cult like following. Techies, geeks, nerds and the rest of us need a place to get our tech on.

Better Business Bureau vs. the Mafia

Eric Greenspan

The Better Business Bureau was created by and for business. It’s not a government agency. It once had a true purpose and provided protection to consumers. Today, in my opinion, it’s a business that makes its living off of coercing other businesses to become a member.

Work Now Rest Later (When You Really Can)

Eric Greenspan

I often hear about balance, recharging, relaxing, and rest. These are wonderful things. When you’ve achieved your goals, please, do all of these things. Until then, work your ass off, constantly, and without anymore of this nonsense talk.

Guy Fieri Missed Some Great Santa Barbara Spots for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

Eric Greenspan

First, I’m a huge Guy Fieri and Triple D fan and in general, the Food Network. An old friend Susie Fogelson works there and I was actually on the Food Network’s Private Chefs of Beverly Hills “Glamping” episode.

How I got a Countrywide Loan Modification from BofA

Eric Greenspan

It was 2008. My home had peaked at value and my business was slowing. My mortgage payment was $14,400/month. I of course paid only the negative amortization amount of $8,000 per month tacking the difference back on to the principal each month.

Straight Outta Twitter

This silent feud between Seth David and I had been pretty one sided, until now. Like Ice Cube and Dr. Dre use rap lyrics, Seth and I use social media instead. We recently parted ways and agreed to do so amicably.

Fiesta Santa Barbara is For Amateurs Like Me

Eric Greenspan

Fiesta or Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara has been an annual festival in Santa Barbara and has been equally present for all of the 28 years I’ve been here. I’ve often avoided it. Traffic, people, drunks, confetti, fattening food, and other debauchery.

The Ten Commandments for Entrepreneurs

Eric Greenspan

Years ago I began doing a presentation called Think Big for area high schools and colleges which included The Ten Commandments for Entrepreneurs. It became quite popular and I was asked to keynote my Think Big presentation for Women’s Economic Ventures.

Do

Eric Greenspan

Every morning when you wake up, treat it like it’s your first day, and like it’s your last day, on earth. Forget all that’s happened badly. Remember all you’ve learned, but remember only what lifted you and helps drive your passion.

Achieve Greatness for Yourself, Become Far More Useful to Others

Eric Greenspan

When I started coaching AYSO I was confused, often bewildered. The process is a ton of work and communication is precarious. I usually got my hand slapped by my division administrator for asking a question. To be honest, the guy was a putz. Maybe too much on his plate.

Restarting – an Entrepreneur’s Journey

Eric Greenspan

I’ve had an interesting run this past year and I’ve dealt with restarting…more than once. After my latest company collapsed in June of 2012, I went into a bit of a depression. I’m no longer afraid to admit it and quite frankly, it made me stronger…much stronger.

Never Stop Learning

Eric Greenspan

I’ve been a student most of my life. Lately, I’ve spent a lot of time in “unfamily” court. While I really don’t want to be there, I kinda love it. I watch case after case and hope I’m not called next, so I can watch more. The judge is smart and fair and I like her.

Mr. Chow for 6 Please

Eric Greenspan

Back in 2006, my company was awarded Services Company of the Year by the Technology Council of Southern California. We wanted to celebrate. I’d never been to Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills and with all the paparazzi out front, I thought I may never.

Chapter 8.2: Rejection is G-d’s Protection

Eric Greenspan

In my Chapter 8.1 post I shared with you a story of my electric car (Chevy Volt, not the Tesla!) purchase. I was a week past my chapter 7 bankruptcy and my goal was to get back on the horse and start building credit immediately. Additionally, the car I traded was financed by my ex and it was in her name. I needed that to change, so did she. I knew big interest rates and a lot of work were in store for me, but I went for it.

Own Your Greeting; Deliver Your Hug or Handshake With Commitment (I’m a Hugger)

Eric Greenspan

I’m a hugger. Not just a slight kiss on the face, awkward arm wrap, limp hugger, but a real hug where the other person for a moment feels safe and appreciated. It’s my routine. Some like it. Some don’t know how to handle it. It’s what works for me. I can’t small talk or fake hug. Greetings can be so warm and welcoming and sometimes, just plain awkward. The secret is to find your greeting and own it!

Better Business Bureau? For who?

Eric Greenspan

How many BBB logos are there? What is the Better Business Bureau? It’s not a government agency. It’s not policed by a government agency. It’s not even run like a top down corporation. It’s a franchise model, run by local “owners&# or “President/CEOs.&#

Should Our Schools Teach Latin or HTML?

Eric Greenspan

Schools in the U.S.A. require the teaching of a foreign language. I took four years of French. I read Les Miserables in French and I’ve seen the theater production over 20 times. I’ve learned much about French history as a result.

8th Talk at USC Marshall School: How My Failure at Make It Work can Benefit Geek Squad and Best Buy

Eric Greenspan

As I began prepping for my talk at USC Marshall School of Business about the recent failure of my 12 year old company Make It Work, I cannot deny many memories were dug up. I had suppressed much of what happened prior to and after that day, June 25, 2012.

Is life moving faster now or does it simply move faster as you age?

Eric Greenspan

Jackson Greenspan, 6 months. It’s hard to believe that my newborn is not so new anymore. The past 6 months went by faster than any I can ever remember. Jackson keeps getting bigger and the days keep getting shorter. The older I get, the faster life seems to wiz by.
