Bionaut Labs Gets $43M For Micro Robotics

Los Angeles-based Bionaut Labs, a company developing microscale robots for treating central nervous system (CNS) diseases and disorders, said this week that it has raised $43.2M in a Series B funding. The funding was led by Khosla Ventures, and also included Deep Insight, OurCrowd, PSPRS, Sixty Degree Capital, Dolby Family Ventures, GISEV Family Ventures, What if Ventures, Tintah Grace and Gaingels, plus Upfront Ventures, BOLD Capital Partners, Revolution VC, and Compound.

Blizzard Plans New Survival Themed Game

Santa Monica-based video game publisher Activision Blizzard is planning a new, yet-to-be-named survival game, which it calls "Unannounced Survival Game", it announced in looking to recruit people to work on the new project. The announcement linked to a Blizzard job postings page, and included a few pieces of conceptual art. It's unclear when the new title will hit the market.

Amgen Acquires Teneobio For $900M

Thousand Oaks-based Amgen said on Tuesday that it will pay $900M for Teneobio, a biopharmaceuticals company which is developing treatments for patients with cancer. According to Amgen, the all cash $900M deal also includes future contingent milestone payments worth up to an additional $1.6 billion in cash. Teneobio has a variety of early-stage oncology assets, including a Phase I bispecific antibody for patients with advanced prostate cancer, according to Amgen.

The funding was led by Summit Partners, and also included Emerson Collective, Fika Ventures, Mac Ventures and Rethink Education. The new funding round brings the company's funding up to around $77M.

Robotaxi Company Pony.ai Gets Permits To Test Vehicles In Irvine

Pony.ai, a Chinese company developing driverless "robo-taxi" vehicles, has gained permission from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to test its vehicles on public roads in Irvine, along with Fremont and Milpitas. According to the DMV, the permit will allow the company to test six autonomous vehicles without a driver behind the wheel on specified streets within Fremont (Alameda County), Milpitas (Santa Clara County) and Irvine (Orange County).
