Los Angeles-based Bionaut Labs, a company developing microscale robots for treating central nervous system (CNS) diseases and disorders, said this week that it has raised $43.2M in a Series B funding. The funding was led by Khosla Ventures, and also included Deep Insight, OurCrowd, PSPRS, Sixty Degree Capital, Dolby Family Ventures, GISEV Family Ventures, What if Ventures, Tintah Grace and Gaingels, plus Upfront Ventures, BOLD Capital Partners, Revolution VC, and Compound.

Amionx Finds Funding For Lithium-ion Battery Technology

Carlsbad-based mionx, a developer of lithium-ion battery technology, says it has received a Series B financing round. Size of the investment was not announced. The funding came from existing investor Qualcomm Ventures LLC, as well as Hongkou Management and Inherent Group, along with other investors. The company said the funding will go to accelerate transfer of its technology to lithium-ion battery manufacturers.

Aristea Snags $63M In Series B

San Diego-based immunology startup Aristea Therapeutics says it has raised $63M in a Series B financing round, which was led by Fidelity Management & Research Company, LLC, along with Novo Holdings A/S, plus Arena Pharmaceuticals and funds managed by Tekla Capital Management, LLC. Aristea is a spinout of AstraZeneca, and is focused on clinical development of novel immunotherapy drugs for the treatment of orphan diseases.

Apple said on Tuesday afternoon that it is launching a new effort in Los Angeles called Apple Creative Studios, which will help provide career-building mentorship, professional industry skills training, creative resources, and access to Apple's full product lineup of iPhone, iPad, and Macs to underrepresented communities. According to Apple, the new program will include eight to 12 weeks of programming and access to mentors.

Electrify America, an electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure developer, says it plans to invest $25M in the Long Beach-Wilmington community, part of a larger $200M investment in California for zero emissions vehicles. According to Electrify America, it will support a "Green City" program in the City of Long Beach and Wilmington for a "Green City" program focused on charging stations for electric transit buses and medium / heavy-duty trucks.
