Santa Monica-based game developer Activision Blizzard says it is slashing 8 percent of its staff, or nearly 800 employees, as a part of a restructuring effort at the company. The move comes even as Activions Blizzard reported record net revenues in 2018 of $7.50 bllion, up from the $7.02 billion it had in revenues for 2017.

Santa Monica-based videogame maker Activision said Tuesday that it has released a brand new, downloadable content pack for its popular title, Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The company said the new content pack, Call of Duty: Black Ops II Vengeance, includes new, multi-player maps, a new, zombie-focused map; a paintball course; and more.

Santa Monica-based Activision Publishing and ABC Entertainment Group announced today that they are in a deal to publish a new Kinect for Xbox 360 game based on the show Wipeout. Wipeout is the ABC series which pits contestants against obstacle courses, and is produced by Endemol USA. Financail details of the deal were not disclosed.

Earlier this month, Los Angeles-based Gamzee (www.gamzee.com), a new game company founded by Howard Marks, the co-founder of Activision and Acclaim Games, announced a seed round of funding. We're way early on that opportunity, of course, because it won't exist until a few months for now. What is Gamzee all about?

Of course, it became a carrier driven business, as carriers started carrying color phones, and they needed products which would take advantage of those phones. I learned that from Bob Kotick, when I joined Activision to work with him, and we did that when we put together the team at Jamdat, and we're applying that same philosophy at GOGII.
