She took an operating role helping run Citysearch and Urbanspoon. Marketing, recruiting, building data products & tools, event management, analyzing the portfolio, etc. Kara will now be really involved with what goes on to successfully create and run a firm but while still handling her core duties of funding great entrepreneurs.

It started around a year ago, as I was driving back from Santa Monica from an event. So, I thought I''d see if there was an interest here to active a community in town. People might be willing to do that for major events, but that''s too high a barrier for people to be actively engaged in the Silicon Beach community.

I wrote out 3 pages of bullet point notes on paper and delivered a 20-minute speech to a crowd of entrepreneurs (which included the Minister of Technology for China). I though to myself, “too many young entrepreneurs in LA seem to feel pressured by NorCal VCs to move to the Bay Area. Get some seasoned entrepreneurs to come.

I’m an event planner turned lawyer turned entrepreneur. Back in college, I started throwing large events for charities and such. Soon after launching, we started doing crazy monthly singles events and match making and I began to realize that what I had enjoyed as a hobby could now be a full business.
