BetterWorks Shutting Down On May 31st

In what is a huge blow to Silicon Beach, Santa Monica-based BetterWorks , the software-and-technology-meets-employee-perks startup run by Paige Craig, told its users today that it is sunsetting its site on May 31st. According to an email from Craig, the company decided to close down the BettterWorks perk platform, and will not longer be active after next Thursday. BetterWorks--and Paige Craig--have been one of the companies driving the growth in Santa Monica's Silicon Beach.

Livestrong.com said it had over 12 million unique visitors in January 2011, an all-time traffic high for the site. Cornerstone OnDemand said it would pay $13M in cash, and $1M in equity for Sonar6, in addition to hiring certain employees from the company. Sonar6 develops cloud-based, talent management software focused on small businesses.

Southern California even beat Silicon Valley in terms of clean tech activity, with the $363.5M Ernst & Young LLP released an analysis of clean technology fundings for Q3, finding that there were $363.5M in clean technology investments in Southern California for the quarter, a significant chunk of an overall $1.6 billion in fundings.
