Southern California already has mature, well established angel groups like the Pasadena Angels and the Tech Coast Angels; is there room for one more? Will a little competition be good for entrepreneurs? Is Maverick part of the evolution of angel investing? Just how are they unique? I do ask that question.

I’m planning on going to a Tech Coast Angels mixer tomorrow and the topic for me is whether there is angel funding out there for startups that don’t meet classic VC models. Orange County startup Beatshare --backed by the Tech Coast Angels, Pasadena Angels, Harvard Business School Angels, and Archangels, among others�thinks it's figured out the formula to make music the message in its mobile app. We worked on Beatshare at Chapman, where there was a business plan competition, which we won.

Fetch and Schlep just raised a round of funding from the Pasadena Angels and the Tech Coast Angels. We did this all on our own for the first three years, and just recently went to friends, relatives, and the Pasadena Angels, who really got excited, and syndicated us to the Tech Coast Angels.
