As part of doing that, I've had the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of different chief technical officers from different kinds of companies over those years. Yes, there are some events around particular technologies. But not really CTO events.

We had an interesting presentation at the LA CTO Forum by the CTO of a startup who chose Groovy / Grails as the framework for their startup. t prompted a good discussion around how CTOs go about choosing the programming language and framework for their startup. Of course, I'm not sure that anyone chooses Java alone.

At the CTO Group that I organize in Santa Monica, we've had lots of discussions around this. Finally we get to: Peter Coffee , Director of Platform Research, Salesforce.com His premise is that we should be beyond having to buy servers, software, or any other infrastructure. Server and client in Java. I would tend to agree.

After all, it’s a Microsoft product and, as we all know, Microsoft is all about world domination and the end of free and open source software as we know it. Basically Microsoft is evil and we should avoid its technology at all cost, not even touch it with a stick.
