Camarillo-based analog and mixed signal semiconductor developer Semtech announced a design win this morning, saying that smart home technology developer Savant is using the company's chips in a design. According to Semtech, Savant is using its BlueRiver AV-over-IP chipsets for a new IP video product line. Those products provider 4K video over IP to residential and commercial markets.

MaxLinear Gets Satellite Receiver Design Win

Carlsbad-based MaxLinear , which develops radio frequency (RF) and mixed signal, integrated circuits, has scored a design win with a satellite receiver developer. MaxLinear said its products are being used by the Unitron Group, for a new satellite receiver, used for receiving signals from up to four satellite bands and multicasting up to 32 channels on an IP network. Qualcomm Rolls Out New Biometric Patch Design

I’ve had a long-standing rule of thumb in product design, which I call “design for the novice, configure for the pro.&# I started saying this back in 2001/02, long before the era of Web 2.0, I think one of the products that does this best in my mind is Gmail.
