Croquet Connects With $2.7M For AR App, Game Development Tools

A new, Los Angeles-based startup, Croquet Corporation has raised $2.7M in a seed funding round, to go towards its development of tools to power apps and games for 5G and augmented reality (AR), the company said on Tuesday. The startup--led by CEO and founder David A. Smith--said that the funding was led by SIP Global Partners (SIP GP), which invested $2.0M in the seed funding. The company says it has created a new platform which it says has been "optimized for co-deployment with 5G modems" and offers up ultra low latency, easy and fast programming, "massive scalability", and other benefits. The company is targeting its tools for use by multi-player gamed developers. Croquet said that Smith previously has worked at such companies as Wearality, Virtus, Red Storm Entertainment, and Gensym, and that he is a former Chief Innovation Officer and Senior Fellow at Lockheed Martin. The startup says its development team came together as part of Y Combinator Research's Human Advanced Research Community (HARC).
