For this morning's interview, we caught up with Elizabeth Cholawsky , the new CEO of Santa Barbara-based HG Data (www.hgdata.com), which develops software which helps marketers and salespeople understand the "technology stack" of their potential customers and prospects. Elizabeth Cholawsky: HG Data is actually a seven year old company.

Santa Barbara-based RightSignature , the electronic signature site run by Daryl Bernstein, announced today that it is powering a new electronic signature solution for Farmers Insurance Claims. Farmers said it initially launched the product in December of 2009 in three states, and has now rolled it out to a total of 16 states.

What used to be an “A” round in 2011 is now routinely called a Seed round and this has been so engrained that founders would rather take less money than to have to put the words “A round” in their legal documents. We can’t wait for customers to use the product for 12–18 months and do customer interviews or look at purchase cohorts.

I encourage my UC Santa Barbara students to launch mini-ventures while in school so they will begin to see the opportunities that surround them. The student scholars whose notes were used to create the consolidated document were given a complimentary copy (and thus the benefit of the notes from the other two students).
