The focus was S3 - storage service, EC2 - their compute cloud, their queuing system, and their flexible payment system. The EC2 is very similar to having a Linux box in a colocation facility. eHarmony and MyShape seem they could use it to distribute load around matching especially during media events.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how big people like Match.com and eHarmony became on the trend of helping us find our dating partners and why this would be improved my mobile, social networks. At the bottom end of the stack is storage (S3) and processing (EC2). I’m going to write a whole post on BothSid.es
