Former Rubicon Project Founder Launches Startup Investment Fund

The former CEO and founder of Los Angeles-based advertising exchange Rubicon Project, Frank Addante, has launched a new, startup investment fund, he announced on Wednesday, saying that after a brief foray into retirement he decided to launch TinkerBarn Ventures, a new startup studio and early stage investment fund. Addante--who recently has been living in Park City, Utah--said he is forming the new fund with partner Brynn Moynihan.

Allied Esports Names New CFO

Irvine-based esports company Allied Esports Entertainment says it has named a new CFO, saying on Tuesday that it has named Roy Anderson to the post. Anderson replaces prior CFO Anthony Hung, who had been at the company since September of 2019. Allied Esports was most recently a partner with accounting firm Mazars USA, where he served as an audit, tax and advisory partner in the TMT Group of Mazars.

Optimad Media Acquires DSPolitical, UNTU

Los Angeles-based Optimad Media, a performance marketing company focused on the consumer packaged goods and film and entertainment market, says it has acquired majority stakes in two companies, DSPolitical and UNTU. Financial details of those acquisitions were not announced. DSPolitical was based in Washington, DC, and offered up advertising for political candidates and public affairs campaigns.

Rocket Lab Acquires Advanced Solutions

Long Beach-based space launch provider Rocket Lab said on Tuesday that it has acquired Advanced Solutions, Inc., a Colorado-based aerospace engineering which provides space software, mission simulation and test systems. According to Rocket Lab, it is paying $40M for the company, with a potential for an additional $5.5M in earnout. The companies said that Advanced Solutions's spacecraft flight software has been used across more than 45 spacecraft for aerospace prime contractors, the U.S.

Cellibre Snags $11.5M For Cannabis Biotech Effort

San Diego-based Cellibre, which says it is developing ways to produce cannabinoids using pharmaceutical cell lines rather than traditional agriculture, has raised $11.5M in a Series A funding. The company said the funding was led by Merida Capital Holdings, and also included Scott Gordon, Flatiron Venture Partners, L2V, Entourage Effect Capital, and Delta Emerald Ventures.
