California Lutheran University (CLU) is receiving a big, $6M donation from former Hughes Electronics Vice Chairman Steve Dorfman, for a new building for the school's School of Management, the school announced this morning. According to the Thousand Oaks university, Dorfman's contribution will go towards the construction of the two-story, 27,000-square foot Steven D.

An effort to register new voters via Snapchat has resulted in 418,000 new voters, according to numbers given by Venice, California-based Snap to the New York Times. Snap is one of a number of companies -- including such local companies as Jam City and Mitu -- who have been pushing "get out the vote" voter registration efforts in their apps and services.

Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne said late Tuesday evening that it has shuffled its CEO position, with current CEO Robert Mehrabian moving to become Executive Chairman, and appointing Al Pichelli as its new CEO. The company said that Mehrabian will continue to be involved with the company, with a focus on strategy, technology, mergers and acquisitions and margin expansion programs.

The move is a shot across the bow of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: REGN ]). The Tarrytown, NY firm recently offered significant price cuts to insurance companies that help boost access to its rival medicine alirocumab (Praluent).

Virgin Orbit , the space launch startup which is backed by Sir Richard Brason, showed off its small satellite launch vehicle, the LauncherOne today, posting images of the launch vehicle in Long Beach Airport being mated with its Cosmic Girl launch vehicle--a converted 747. Virgin Orbit is attaching the LauncherOne rocket on the underside of the Cosmic Girl, which will take the launch vehicle high into the atmosphere before release into orbit.

San Francisco-based Cloudflare , which provides a service which helps web site and web application developers manage caching and access to their websites, protecting against cyberattacks, distributed denial of service (DDoS)--and which is backed by Qualcomm--is heading towards an IPO. Reports from Reuters say that Cloudflare has hired Goldman Sachs to lead its IPO, which will value the company at more than $3.5 billion.

Cloud endpoint protection software developer CrowdStrike , which has significant operations in Irvine, said today that it has been added to an "approved products" list for the Department of Homeland Security. According to Crowdstrike, the tools were approved to deliver "critical cyber capabilities" into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation Program (CDM).

Redland-based geographical information systems (GIS) software maker Esri announced this morning that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU), with the national statistics agency for the United Arab Emirates. According to Esri, the MOU came with the UAE's Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA). Size of the customer win were not announced.
