Snapchat will make Los Angeles a stronger tech hub

If you were to write a history of Silicon Valley, you could do it by looking at a series of major diaspora. Companies like Google, Yahoo, Oracle and PayPal attract top talent for years; when they reach maturity or a major liquidity event, their talent disperses and germinates into the next generation of companies. It’s quite possible that Snapchat could do the same for L.A.

DTS Now Part Of Tessera

Calabasas-based surround sound and audio technology developer DTS is now officially part of Tessera , after Tessera completed its acquisition of DTS on Thursday, the companies said on Thursday afternoon. Tessera paid $850M in cash for DTS, in a deal which had originally been announced in May. Tessera said that it will introduce a new corporate name, stock ticker, brand, and logo during the first quarter of 2017 as a result of the acquisition.

Bam Ventures Launching Incubator for Brian Lee's Ideas

Bam Venture Partners has started raising a second $30 million fund which it will use, in part, to invest in and incubate startup ideas thought of by Brian Lee, co-founder of the fund and chief executive of the Honest Co. of Playa Vista. What capital isn’t used for the incubator will be invested in seed and early stage deals, similar to the sort of investments made by the first Bam Ventures fund, said Lee.

Olloclip To Open Pop-Up Shop, Gallery In LA Next Week

Huntington Beach-based Olloclip , which makes add-on lenses for the iPhone, is launching its own pop-up store and image gallery this holiday season, with a store in LA's Fairfax district. According to Olloclip, it will have a pop-up shop in LA, at the Seventh Letter Gallry on North Fairfax Ave, which will showcase photos taken with its lenses, as well as product demos and a shop.

Fandango Gobbles Up Cinepapaya

Los Angeles-based online ticketing and movie service Fandango continues to be in an acquisitive move, and has acquired Latin American online movie ticketer Cinepapaya. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. The acquisition follows an acquisition last year of Brazilian ticketing firm Ingresso.com. Fandango said the buy doubles its reach in Latin America.
