Esports One Wins Riot Games Brazil


Santa Monica-based Esports One , which develops data and analytics software for the esports industry, said on Tuesday that it has partnered with Riot Games. Esports One said it will provide real time stats and data to Riot's League of Legends broadcasts in Brazil. Financial details of the deal were not announced. Esports One says it uses computer vision technology to provide real-time analytics and capture of what is happening with professional esports matches.

HireRight Names New Chief Services Officer


Irvine-based HireRight , which provides employment background checks, drug testing, and other similar employment screening and verification services, said on Tuesday afternoon that it has named Todd Baxter as Chief Services Officer. Baxter was previously Head of Member Services Operations Strategy and Transformation at CVS Health, and also served at Experian North America, TeleTech, and Connextions. Mitek Systems Rejects ASG’s $380M Takeover Bid


Mitek Systems, which is being targeted for takeover by a subsidiary of Elliott, billionaire Paul Singer’s activist hedge fund, has unanimously rejected its $380 million offer. The Oct. 31 offer —rejected Monday—was made by ASG Technologies Group, a Florida-based software company that last year sold a controlling stake to Evergreen Coast Capital, Elliott’s Menlo Park, CA, affiliate, which focuses on technology investing.

Engineer.ai Finds $29.5M


Los Angeles- and London-based Engineer.ai , which is developing artificial intelligence-driven software which it says breaks software development projects into "small building blocks of re-usable features" to create what it calls a "software assembly line", has raised $29.5M in a Series A funding, the company announced on Tuesday. The company said the round was led by Lakestar and Jungle Ventures, and also included Softbank's DeepCore.

Mitek Systems Appoints New CEO After Rejecting $380M Takeover Bid


Mitek Systems has appointed a new chief executive, the day after rejecting an $380 million takeover bid from Florida-based ASG Technologies. A letter ASG sent to Mitek’s board of directors last week proposing ASG acquire the San Diego-based company asserted Mitek was facing “significant operational uncertainty and risk” following news of the imminent departure of its longtime chief executive and its chief financial officer.

Stanson Health Acquired By Premier Inc. For Up To $66.5M


Los Angeles-based Stanson Health , a developer of clinical decision support software, has been acquired by Premier Inc. Premier announced this morning. Premier said it will pay $51.5M in cash, plus up to $15M in earnout, for Stanson Health. Stanson Health was founded in 2013, by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Dr. Scott Weingarten, the former CEO of Zynx Health.

Bird Launches In London


Santa Monica-based on-demand scooter rental service Bird has launched its service--in a limited way--in London, with a limited pilot that makes the company's scooters available in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The new service skirts a strict U.K. law which makes operating electronic scooters illegal to operate on streets, by solely operating on private property.

j2 Global Revenues Increase To $292.7M For Q3


Los Angeles-based j2 Global , the Internet services and publishing giant behind such brands as IGN, Mashable, PCMag, eFax, eVoice, KeepItSafe, and dozens of others, saw its third quarter revenues rise to $292.7 million, up 7 percent compared with Q3 of 2017. The company says its expects revenues of between $1.2 billion and $1.25 billion for its fiscal 2018, and an Adjusted EBITDA between $480 million and $505 million.
