Qualcomm Backs M87 To Improve Access To Wireless Networks

Seattle-based M87 said it raised $5M in a funding round, which was led by Madrona Venture Group, and also included Qualcomm Ventures and Trilogy Equity Partners.

TOMS Releases Watch Bands For Apple Watch

Los Angeles-based shoe company TOMS has expanded into watchbands specifically for the Apple Watch, the company said this week. TOMS said it has rolled out a series of watchband designs--one as "The Utility Collection" and the others as "The Artisan Collection"--both of which work with the Apple Watch. Onestop Internet: Amazon Serious Threat To Apparel Brands

Los Angeles-based e-commerce service provider Onestop Internet --which is backed by Bessemer Ventures and Fung Capital USA--said it has run a new consumer survey, which shows that Amazon is a "serious threat" to its customers, apparel brands. The company said that its survey shows of the 47 percent of respondents who plan on purchasing apparel online over the holidays, 65 percent intend to buy from Amazon.

Disney Teams With Intel On Drone Show

Drones are taking over Walt Disney World Resort in Florida--at least, for the holiday season--after a deal between Glendale-based Walt Disney Company and Intel. Disney and Intel said they have launched a new, holiday show, which features a fleet of coordinated drones in a holiday display. According to the two, Starbright Holidays - An Intel Collaboration will run at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and will feature 300, Intel Shooting Star drones in a choreographed aerial performance.

EDF Renewable Energy Wins 150 Megawatt Wind Project

San Diego-based renewable energy developer EDF Renewable Energy and Otter Tail Power Company announced Thursday morning that the two are working together on a 150 megawatt (MW) wind project in North Dakota. The two said that EDF RE will build the 150MW Merricourt Wind Project, which will be purchased by Otter Tail Power Company upon completion. The deal includes 75 wind turbines, which will be erected on 13,700 ares near Edgeley, North Dakota.
