Rocket Lab Will Attempt First Stage Recovery On Next Launch

Long Beach-based Rocket Lab said on Thursday that it will attempt a recovery of the first stage of its Electron launch vehicle, as part of the launch provider's efforts to start reusing its rockets. According to Rocket Lab, its next mission, scheduled for lift-off in mid-November, will include an attempt to bring the Electron's first stage back to earth under a parachute system for a controlled water landing.

Pacific Defense Acquires Spear Research

El Segundo-based Pacific Defense , which is backed by private equity investors Emerald Lake Capital Management and HCI Equity Partners, has acquired New Hamphire-based Spear Research. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. According to Pacific Defense, the acquisition will add a team of engineers with core competencies in RF engineering, advanced signal processing, autonomous command and control, and system integration.
