Semtech Gets Another Win In India

In the second win in the country of India announced to Camarillo-based Semtech this week, the analog and mixed signal semiconductor developer said this morning that it has signed up another customer in India. According to Semtech, Ahoy Systems, an an electronic design house and OEM for several smart city devices, is using its technology for "smart" street lighting solutions.

Faraday Future Jumps On Blockchain Bandwagon

Los Angeles-based electric car developer Faraday Future --which was just rescued via a last minute funding lifeline in June--has yet to ship its vehicles, but has gone ahead and jumped on the Blockchain to "set global automaker standards for blockchain". According to Faraday Future, it has joined the MOBI Blockchain Consortium, where its FF Head of Product for Vehicle Software Platform, Shyam Sundar, will become part of key workgroups for MOBI.

Virgin Galactic Has Successful Third Test Flight

Virgin Galactic had a third, successful test flight of its VSS Unity spaceship on Thursday from Mojave, the company said this morning, sending the spacecraft to 170,800 feet at 2.47 times the speed of sound. According to Virgin Galactic, the flight is the first for the spacecraft to that altitude, which is classified as the "Mesosphere"--the upper range of balloon flight.

San Diego-based Zavante Therapeutics , a biopharmaceuticals firm developing injectable antibiotics for multi-drug resistant bacteria, has been acquired by Nabriva Therapeutics. According to Nabriva, it will pay 8.2 million shares of its stock, plus up to $97.5M based on future milestones, for Zavante Therapeutics. The deal is worth approximately $124M.

Qualcomm’s Ends Two-Year, $44B Bid for NXP After No Word from China

Qualcomm finally ended its almost two-year bid to acquire Dutch semiconductor maker NXP for as much as $44 billion last night, after it didn’t receive word from Chinese regulators about whether the deal, which was subject to global regulations, would gain approval. Instead, San Diego-based Qualcomm said it plans to repurchase $30 billion of shareholder stock.
