IKIN Raises $5M For Augmented Reality Technology

San Diego-based IKIN said this morning that it has launched its company, backed by $5M in seed funding, to bring personalized, 3D holograms to life. The startup--led by CEO Joe Ward--says it has created a new augmented reality technology it says will enable "immersive free-standing holograms" generated from a user's smartphone. The source of the seed funding round was not announced.

GeoLinks Wins $87.8M Contract Award For Rural Internet Rollout

Camarillo-based wireless Internet services provider GeoLinks has scored a big, $87.8M contract, to provide rural, Internet services across more than 11,000 locations in California and Nevada, the company announced this morning. According to GeoLinks, the contract award came from the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), which manages the broadband connectivity fund collected from telephone bills.

Los Angeles-based Two Bit Circus says it has begun hosting a series of e-sports tournaments at the startup's Micro-Amusement Park in downtown Los Angeles. According to Two Bit Circus, those tournaments are aimed at players of all ages and skill levels, and will include everything from Fortnite and Super Smash Bros. to Killer Queen. The company said players can win up to $1000 in prizes for the tournaments, which have entry fees ranging from $5 to $30.
