Radicle Growth Teams With UPL On $1.25M Startup Challenge

San Diego-based Radicle Growth, which focuses on incubating early stage agriculture and food technology, and agriculture giant UPL said today that the two are in a new partnership, which will invest $1.25M in two startups that can "positively impact and reduce the carbon footprint and improve soil health of the food value chain." The two said they have launched the Radicle Carbon and Soil Challenge by UPL, where it will invest $1M in a winner and $250K in a second place winner.

indie Semiconductor Acquires TeraXion

Aliso Viejo-based indie Semiconductor, a developer of semiconductors for the automotive industry, says it has signed a definitive agreement to acquired TeraXion, a designer and manufacturer of photonic components. Financial terms of the buy were not announced. TeraXion is based in Quebec, and was founded in 2000. The company produces low noise lasers, Bragg gratings and integrated photonic elements which are used for automotive light detection and ranging (LiDAR).

C3 Launches New Virtual Restaurant Brand, Radical Rooster's Chicken

Los Angeles-based C3 (Creating Culinary Communities), the virtual restaurant effort which was founded by Sam Nazarian, said it is launching a new, entirely virtual brand, Radical Rooster's Chicken. The company said fried chicken brand is being launched in partnership with GrubHub, and will launch initially in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City.

TutorMe Donates $100K To Wisconsin School District

Los Angeles-based online tutoring company TutorMe says it is donating $100,000 in tutoring services to the Racine Unified School District (RUSD) in Racine, Wisconsin. According to the company, the donation will give students int he district free 24/7 access to live tutors in more than 300 subjects. TutorMe did not say why it decided to provide that particular district with the donation.

Fair Technologies Pivots, Plans 2022 Relaunch

Beverly Hills-based Fair, which was most recently focused on letting people lease vehicles on as short as a month-to-month basis, said Tuesday that it has adopted a new strategy, and plans to change its name for an early 2022 relaunch. According to the company, it is pivoting to launch a launch an end-to-end e-commerce marketplace that offers consumers inventory and comprehensive financing, insurance and extended warranties.
