Zyxel Rolls Out New Firewalls

Anaheim-based networking hardware maker Zyxel said this morning that it has rolled out a brand new firewall line, aimed at the SMB market. According to the company its new USG FLEX Firewall series is part of its Nebula Cloud Networking line, and are specifically designed to support remote work. The company said that the product is a response to the rapid shift to remote networking, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Santa Monica-based private equity investor Sole Source Capital announced last week that it has acquired two companies, Peak-Ryzex and Optical Phusion, two companies in the factory automation area. Financial details of the transaction were not announced. According to Sole Source Capital, the acquisition mark the fifth and sixth portfolio company investments the firm has made in the automatic identification, data capture (AIDC) and factory automation area.

Two startups won a total of $25,000 in prizes last week at the Sunstone Innovations Challenge at CSULB, a startup pitch competition involving student teams from CSU Long Beach. According to Sunstone Management, a private capital and investment firm, VITALINK, a biotech smart watch accessory startup developing a "a dermal caffeine dosage system" received $15,000 in seed funding and will also receive co-working space, marketing, legal and accounting services totaling up to $35,000.

Rocket Lab To Attempt Booster Recovery

Long Beach-based Rocket Lab is looking to boost reusability of its rockets, by recovering the booster from one of its next launch, the company said last week. According to Rocket Lab, it will attempt to bring a rocket back from space at a launch in May 2021 from Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand. Rocket Lab says it will slow the Electron launch vehicle down from its normal greater than Mach 8 speeds as it re-enters the earth's atmosphere, and splash the rock down in the ocean.
