Claremont McKenna Gets $40M For Science Center

Claremeont McKenna College says it has received $40M for a new sciences center, from the W.M. Keck Foundation. The school said the new center will house its new integrated sciences program, and will be named the Robert Day Sciences Center, honoring Claremont McKenna alumnus and trustee, and W.M. Keck Foundation Chair and Chief Executive Officer. The new center will be 120,000 square feet.

Semtech Settles Lawsuit With Spark Connected

Camarillo-based semiconductor developer Semtech and wireless power company Spark Connected said the two companies have settled their intellectual property dispute. Financial details of the settlement were not announced. Spark Connected had sued Semtech in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas over patent infringement, in Case No. 4:18-cv-00748.

Clearlake Capital Sells Provation

Santa Monica-based private equity investor Clearlake Capital says that it has sold one of its portfolio companies, Provation, which provides software to the healthcare industry. Financial details of the sale were not announced. Clearlake said it investedin Provation in March of 2018, after a carve-out acquisition from Wolters Kluwer. The company also funded the acquisition of four companies for Provation, including MD-Reports, ePreop, iProcedures and endoPRO.

NASA Awards SpaceX Three Crew Flights On Boeing Delays

NASA said on Friday that it is awarding three more, crewed astronaut missions to SpaceX. According to NASA, the addition of those three new crew flights will allow the agency to "maintain an uninterrupted U.S. capability for human access to the space station." The contract award comes as SpaceX competitor Boeing has seen more delays for its own spacecraft launch efforts.

Caltech Sues Samsung Over Patents After $1.1 Billion Win

The California Institute of Technology has filed a new patent infringement lawsuit, after winning $1.1 billion in damages in a patent infringement lawsuit last year against Broadcom. Caltech filed a lawsuit gainst Samsung, saying that Samsung's Galaxy phones, tablets, and watches use Wi-Fi chipsets which infringe on five of its patents. Caltech also has a lawsuit pending against Microsoft, alleging Microsoft's Surface tablets, laptop, and videogame systems also infringe on those same patents.
