San Diego-based ID Analytics has named a new CEO, saying on Wednesday that it has named Ajay Nigam to the position. Nigam had been Senior Vice President of Product and Technology at ID Analytics since May of 2017, when he joined the company. According to ID Analytics, Nigam will report to Symantec SVP for Information Protection Nico Popp. ID Analytics became part of Symantec, when Symantec acquired Lifelock in 2016.

Santa Monica-babsed Tyffon , a developer of immersive entertainment technology started in Japan, said this morning that it has raised $2.17M in a funding round, to set up its first location in Los Angeles. The company--which was part of the Disney Accelerator powered by Techstars--said the funding came from SEGA SAMMY Holdings, Mizuho Capital, Tokyu Recreation, Canal Ventures, plus others.

Kittyhawk , a drone software developer backed by Santa Monica-based Bonfire Ventures, has scored new funding from insurance company Travelers, the company said today. The startup, based in San Francisco, says it has now raised $9.5M in total from such investors as Travelers, Bonfire Ventures, Boeing HorizonX Ventures, Freestyle Ventures and The Flying Object.

Los Angeles-based mobile entertainment and gaming developer Jam City said today that it is getting behind an effort to encourage its users to register to vote in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, through a joint effort with nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization When We All Vote. According to Jam City, players of its popular games Cookie Jam, Cookie Jam Blast, Panda Pop, and Genies & Gems will be encouraged to register to vote ahead of the November 6th midterm elections.

Uber is joining the rush into the electric scooter market today, and has launched its JUMP scooter service in Santa Monica , letting its Uber users reserve its scooters for a ride across town. Uber--like Bird, Lime, and Lyft--is offering up its scooters for $1 to unlock and 15 cents per minute, although riders can ride the scooters for free until October 7th.

Cloudera and Hortonworks, two large, publicly traded companies that compete to offer Web-based data storage and analytics, announced plans today to merge into a combined entity they value at $5.2 billion. Share prices for the two Silicon Valley companies spiked in after-hours trading following the announcement Wednesday that both their boards approved the all-stock deal.

The next launch of a SpaceX rocket--of an earth observation satellite, the SAOCOM-1A, for Argentina--has shifted to Sunday evening, based on new launch data. The launch is now targeted for October 7th at 7:22pm, from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The SpaceX launch will also include the first, ground-based landing for a SpaceX Falcon 9 first stage on the west coast; SpaceX is planning to land the stage within sight of its launch pad at Vandenberg, while also deploying its oceangoing vessel, the Mr.
