LookinLA, Clearco In Partnership

Los Angeles-based marketing agency LookinLA has partnereds with e-commerce investment firm Clearco, the companies said on Monday. Clearco provides investments for e-commerce businesses, and according to the two, has funded more than 7,000 businesses, and investing over $3 billion. Clearco was co-founded as Clearbanc in 2015 by Michele Romanow from Canada's Shark Tank (Dragons' Den), and according to the companies was the youngest ever entrepreneur to join the show Dragons' Den.

Geno Names Chief Legal Officer

San Diego-based Geno (Genomatica) says it has hired its first Chief Legal Officer, to help the company with its growth. According to the company, it has appointed Shawnte Mitchell to the new position. Mitchell was previously Executive Vice Presdient, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Zogenix, and also had served at Aptevo Therapeutics. Geno says it is developing and scaling sustainable materials derived from plant- or waste-based feedstocks instead of fossil fuels.

Paradigm Sports Backs Huupe

Los Angeles-based sports and entertainment agency Paradigm Sports said today that it has made an investment in Huupe, which makes a "smart" basketball hoop. Size of the investment was not announced. According to Paradigm Sports, it led the seed funding in Huupe, in an investment which also included F Street Ventures, Reform Ventures, JB Fitzgerald, Tundra Angels, and Ball Tek Ventures.

Gym Class Snags $8M

Los Angeles-based Gym Class, a startup developing virtual reality basketball apps, says it has raised $8M in a seed funding round. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and also included Y Combinator. The company says it is developing a VR basketball app on meta Quest App Lab, and will launch in Fall of 2022. Gym Class was founded by Matthew Harris, CEO, Justin Hubert, Chief Creative Officer, and Paul Katsen, Chief Product Office in 2019. class virtual reality basketball
