NXT Robotics Names CEO

San Diego-based autonomous robot developer NXT Robotics Corporation said last week that it has named Darin Andersen as the company's Chief Executive Officer. Andersen is the chairman and founder of industry group CyberTech, and previously had been COO of ESET, and had been at Norman Shark, a malware analysis company later acquired by Blue Coat Systems.

Verdezyne Breaks Ground On New Plant In Malaysia

Carlsbad-based synthetic biology developer Verdezyne announced this morning that it has broken ground on a new plant in Malaysia, which will produce renewable chemicals. According to Verdezyne, the plant is its first, commercial-scale renewable chemicals manufacturing facility. The facility will produce odecanedioic acid (DDDA), which the company explains is a 12-carbon diacid that is a component of many consumer products currently made from petroleum.

Ring Rolls Out New Spotlight Cam

Santa Monica-based home security products maker Ring is further expanding on its line of cameras today, saying it has launched the new Ring Spotlight Cam , a new home security device which lets users install cameras around the home and around their property. According to Ring, the new Spotlight Cam can be powered by battery, hard wiring, or solar power, and includes LED light panels which turn on when motion is directed, in addition to 1080P HD video and two way audio.

Los Angeles-based private equity investor Platinum Equity said last week that it is buying Singapore-based Fischer Tech Ltd. , a manufacturer of high volume, precision engineering plastic components, in a deal worth approximately $111.7M. The two said that Platinum Equity would pay S$3.02 in cash per share of publicly traded Fischer Tech. Platinum Equity is merging Fischer Tech with Chinese company Ying Sing Enterprises Limited , which it acquired in 2015.
