Wavemaker Portfolio Firm, Phunware, Goes Public Via Reverse Merger

Los Angeles-based venture investor Wavemaker Partners has seen one of its portfolio companies hit the public markets, albeit via an unusual, reverse merger arrangement. According to Phunware , a developer of mobile application lifecycle management software, it has been acquired by Stellar Acquisition II , which is listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market. Stellar is a so-called "blank check acquisition company" specifically designed to for reverse mergers.

Los Angeles-based MediaAlpha , a developer of programmatic advertising software, said today that it is expanding into the European market. The firm said it has opened up a London office, and hired on Robert Goldsmith as Director of Demand Partnerships as part of its efforts in Europe. Goldsmith was previously a Sales Director at KAYAK. MediaAlpha said Goldsmith will lead its travel industry initiatives across Europe.

The purchase was first reported by Geekwire, which cited a separate report from Reuters that the deal is valued at about $1 billion. Stamps.com Snags CTO From Mattel

El Segundo-based online postage and shipping software developer Stamps.com said late Tuesday afternoon that it has named Jonathan Bourgoine as its new Chief Technology Officer. Bourgoine was most recently the VP and Chief Technology Officer of Mattel and, before that, was SVP of Operations at Youbet.com. Bourgoine replaces Stamp.com CTO Michael Biswas, who had been at the firm for the last 15 years.
