Hamet Watt , a Partner at Upfront Ventures, and the co-founder of bLife, MoviePass, and NextMedium, is reportingly launching a new startup studio in Los Angeles. The new venture is called Share Ventures , and is being co-founded by actress Halle Berry. Details on the new startup studio--which came to light at Upfront's annual conference, the Upfront Summit--have yet to be formally announced.

San Diego-based renewable energy developer EDF Renewable Energy says it has put a new, 200 megawatt wind project in Minnesota online. Accoding to EDF RE, the 200MW Red Pine Wind Project is fully operational, and delivering electricity into the Northern States Power Hawks Nest Lake Substation. The wind project generates enough energy to power approximately 92,000 average Minnesota homes.

Hawthorne, California-based SpaceX successfully delivered its latest satellite payload, the GovSat-1 communications satellite, into orbit on Wednesday, and--as a bonus--managed to preserve the first stage of the Falcon 9 used in the launch. According to Elon Musk, SpaceX attempted a "very high retrothrust landing in water", which appeared to have been successful, as he posted a photo of the Falcon 9 floating in the Atlantic.

Los Angeles-based Service , the venture backed startup which helps travelers automatically receive compensation for airline delays and cancellations, has expanded into hotel booking, saying it now is able to scan a user's email for upcoming hotel reservations, then automatically search for price drops, rebooking rooms when that happens. Service--which is venture backed by Founders Fund, Menlo Ventures, Maveron, 8VC, Arena Ventures, and angels--is led by CEO Michael Schneider.

In his now infamous memo, ex-Google engineer James Damore cited scientific evidence to illustrate why women may not be suited for jobs at some of today’s leading tech companies. Women, he argued, are biologically more attuned to “people” jobs rather than “thing” jobs, like those in technology. But what Damore was doing, others pointed out, was cherry-picking science that he found agreed with his already-established world view.

Joymode said the funding was led by Naspers, and also includes Homebrew.

It took a while to arrange a call to discuss how Foundation Medicine’s Michael Pellini had joined Section 32 as Maris’s first investing partner, and what they plan to do together. Maris acknowledged last year that he was laying plans to raise a new fund, after investing nearly all of the first $160 million he had raised for Section 32.

Los Angeles-based identity management software developer Lieberman Software has been acquired by Atlanta-based Bomgar , Bomgar said on Thursday morning, in a deal aimed at improving Bomgar's portfolio of access and identity management products. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Liberman Software was led by founder and CEO Philip Lieberman.

Laguna Hills-based software developer QuestSoft announced on Thursday that it has purchased Laguna Hills-based IMARC , a provider of data verification and audit services to the financial services industry. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. QuestSoft, which develops automated mortgage compliance software, said the deal would expand its data verification and audit services for the mortgage industry.

Monrovia, California-based AeroVironment has launched its commercial drones into the agriculture market, said on Wednesday that it has launched the Quantex hybrid drone and related analytics software, specifically for the agriculture market. The new drone and software bundle, which costs $16,500, allows farmers to collect and use aerial imagery--including both true color and multispectral imagery--allowing for better decision making and farm management.

Santa Monica-based digital trading card startup Epics.gg has raised $2M in a seed funding round, according to the company, which came from BITKRAFT Esports Ventures, along with GC Tracker Fund, Everblue Management, Hersh Interactive Group, Imagination Capital, Courtside Ventures and angel investors. Epics.gg said it was founded by the team that founded Xfire, LoLking.net, Esportsify, and Skinz.gg.
